1. Act expands military reservist loan program
A small business can now apply for a Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loan on the date the employee receives their call-up notice.

2. EEOC: Police department to pay $450,000 for age discrimination
A New York county transferred four officers out of their positions and into less desirable precincts and replaced them with younger officers.

3. DHS issues guidance for ‘No-Match’ letters
Supplemental Final Rule provides additional background and analysis for the department’s No-Match Rule.

4. President Bush signs bankruptcy relief bill
National Guard and Reserve members can now obtain bankruptcy assistance much easier.

5. IRS: Cost-of-living adjustments, benefit plan limitations for 2009
New cost-of-living adjustments applicable to dollar limitations for pension plans and other items for tax year 2009.

6. SSA: 5.8 percent benefit increase for 2009
Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits for more than 55 million Americans will increase 5.8 percent in 2009.

7. Health benefits: President signs “Michelle’s Law”
Continued coverage for certain dependent children who lose full-time student status while taking a medically necessary leave of absence.

8. DOL issues final rules for PPA requirements
The Department of Labor announced final rules pertaining to the requirements of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA).

Connecticut, Florida, and Vermont recently updated their labor law posters.
