Ohio Issues Revised Notice Reflecting Minimum Wage Increase for 2008 November 9, 2007

Ohio has increased its minimum wage from $6.85 per hour to $7.00 per hour effective Jan. 1, 2008. The minimum wage for tipped employees will also increase – from $3.43 per hour plus tips to $3.50 per hour plus tips on that date.The increased minimum wage rates are included in a mandatory workplace notice issued by the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Labor & Worker Safety.

The revised notice also states that employers who gross under $255,000 a year shall pay their employees no less that the federal minimum wage rate. The previous notice had set that amount at under $250,000 annually.

A sentence has been added to the notice stating that the current federal minimum wage is $5.85 per hour and that it will increase to $6.55 per hour on July 24, 2008.
