The minimum computer system requirements for the Trainer Tools CD-ROM are Office 2000, with Word, and Internet Explorer version 5.5.
• (1) Awareness Poster - Hang in a break room or training room to remind employees of hazmat safety.
• Many Other Training Materials - Label/Placard Wall Chart, Load and Segregation Wall Chart, Hazmat Employee Training Record and Certification Form, Hazmat Employee Training Certificate, and Wallet Cards (perforated sheet of 10) drivers can carry as proof of training.

  • Introduction - Explains why the hazmat transportation process is serious business, with serious consequences when things are not done correctly.
  • The Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) - Explains that shippers are to classify each material and to communicate the hazards thru shipping papers, labels on packages & placards on transport vehicles.
  • Training - Explains that the HMR requires hazmat employees be trained in at least 4 areas: General Awareness, Function-Specific, Safety and Security Awareness (NOTE: See 131-DVD for Hazmat Security Awareness training program.)
  • The Hazardous Materials Table - Explains this alphabetical listing of materials identified as hazardous by the DOT and how it provides info needed to communicate the hazards associated with those materials in the hazmat transportation process, including an explanation of Columns 1-10 of the Table.
  • Shipping Papers - Explains how this documentation plays an important role in the transportation process; it’s the shipper’s responsibility to fill them out accurately; and that the correct “basic description sequence” is critical to emergency response personnel.

  • Labeling - Explains how they communicate immediate warning of a material’s hazards (mainly used for non-bulk packagings).

  • Emergency Response Information - Explains that most hazmat shipments must have emergency response information on or with the shipping papers and how it’s provided.
  • Loading, Unloading and Storage - Explains that there are specific requirements which are targeted at protecting everyone involved in the transportation process for hazardous materials.

  • Segregation - Explains the requirements for highway transport that specific which hazardous materials may not be loaded, transported or stored together.

  • Conclusion - Emphasizes that regardless of what function you perform as a hazmat employee, you have an impact on the safety of everyone involved in the hazmat transportation process.
